Starting Lineup Vs. Paraguay

After Brazil finished off Ecuador, Basile gave the starting lineup for match against Paraguay tomorrow.

Only 3 players started in first game against USA will start again tomorrow. They are Cambiasso, Zanetti and Pato.

This is a surprise from Basile.

First, it started all the bench players including Palacio except for goalie. After Pato's soso performance against Columbia, many fans have been calling for Carrizo.

Another surprise is Zanetti shifting to the left back position. Zanetti is rarely seen at that position. In fact, Burdisso probably had started on that edge more than him. This is possibly due to coco's lack of trust in Zanetti as a CB. And it hints that both Heinze and Ayala needed rest.
Here we see the disadvantage of bringing in only 7 backs. Pinola for example, would of filled the needs in such situation.

The 3rd surprise is starting Cambiasso over Mascherano. Especially since there're rumor of Cambiasso not feeling too well after the Columbia game. However. Cambiasso obviously is more offensive than Mascherano. We need to get a goal or two to gain a win, so starting Cambiasso would give us an offensive edge at the begining. Perhaps after we got ahead, Basile could substitute Mascherano in and rest Cuchu.
If at any point Mascherano is substituted in, then expect the midfield to become more boxy, and Aimar moving towards the left to balance the formation laterally. Another solution would be to switch Gago and Mascherano, then Aimar could stay near center.

Palacio will play at Messi/Tevez position while Tevez will play #9 like Crespo/Milito. This is a test for Carlito. Basile is basically saying: "If you satisfy me tomorrow, then you can compete against Milito for the spot".
So fans of Carlito, get your shirts on! COME ON TEVEZ, GET SOME!

Last, which isn't surprising, is Lucho starting on the right. He did ok against Columbia, and should be given the chance. Let as many starters rest as possible.

heyyy its me vandal_Ares from the SA site.
anways i think you guys will light paraguay up with goals lol.

paraguay plays a very ugly and boring defensive system. but against a team like argentina you cant play like that because its just too much talent.

im rooting for argentina and i hope you guys play mexico so you can shut them the hell up!!

If Argentina meets Mexico some time during this tourney, The Mexican are going to pay. They are well sync'ed because the goldcup, but there're ying and yang sides to everything.
Their defense for example, if sustained 2 injuries would be practically gone... their midfield and offense are rapidly fatiguing too. Iron men football is taking its toll.

US did pretty good against argentina, severally took control of the tempo. Look at columbia, they didn't do better even with more experienced and possibly more skilled players.
you gotta realize how much depth the argie NT has. Not just the starters. This US team has barely enough quality players at international level, when they fatigued there's not much to look for on the bench. In the game against Argentina, after 60 minutes when US started running out of gas, there really wasn't too much bob bradley could of done. The hot and humid weather at the place group C play certainly isn't helping.

yeah fatigue def screwd us up.

i was really mad at bob bradley for not taking the squad that won the gold cup. i seriously think that the squad that won the gold cup could have done damage in this tournament.

but bob decided to go with the young players and a few vets to get the young players experience for 2010.

but than again im really impressed with these young players.

eddie johnson for example. regardless the criticism he had received, the fact is Ayala and diego Milito 2 on 1 him and couldn't lock him down.
And there's freddy adu coming up. These players will offer their next world cup team the kind of offensive capability never before seen in USMNT history. While players like clark, olsen, bocanegra, feilhaber and demerit will form a formidable team to back them up. US looking good for SA WC.
