Thanks Jack for reminding us of the list.

Goalkeeper: Roberto Abbondanzieri (Getafe, ESP).

Defenders: Gabriel Heinze (Real Madrid, ESP), Javier Zanetti y Nicolás Burdisso (Inter, ITA), Fabricio Coloccini (Deportivo La Coruña, ESP), Gabriel Milito (Barcelona, ESP) y Martín Demichelis (Bayern Munich, GER).

Midfielders: Fernando Gago (Real Madrid, ESP), Javier Mascherano (Liverpool, GBR), Federico Insúa (América, MEX), Esteban Cambiasso (Inter, ITA), Maximiliano Rodríguez (Atlético Madrid, ESP) y Juan Román Riquelme (Villarreal, ESP).

Forwards: Hernán Crespo (Inter, ITA), Lionel Messi (Barcelona, ESP), Sergio Agüero (Atlético Madrid, ESP) y Carlos Tévez (Manchester United, GBR).

The biggest change is obviously the exclusion of Saviola and reenlistment of Crespo. This means Basile wants #9 and is willing to sacrifice a forward super sub for it. That's fine though, I warned you guys about this while ago. It's unfortunate for Saviola, but that's why it's a "sacrifice".
More importantly though, it means Tevez had moved back to the bench, because very few would agree to a rotation between Carlito and Messi.
Unless, of course, if Tevez could find a place on left wing. That's not likely because the European list already included 4 midfielders that could play wide. There's also Belluschi waiting for the call again.

Playing a #9 also means a target person sub. Our best bet would probably be Germán Denis again. His positioning was exquisite, if we're bringing back Crespo, then Denis definitely worth another try.

I'm quite happy not to see Cata Diaz and Gutiérrez. Diaz is too old for my liking, although he's very experienced... Gutiérrez on other hand, doesn't appear to be ready. In his previous appearance, he got to the ball quite a bit, but didn't seem to know what to do with it.

I liked Ustari more than Carrizo too. Perhaps the later is more an orthodox keeper, while Ustari is a rebel and more likable?
Unfortunately, since Ustari isn't getting enough pitch time (and experience), which he desperately needs, we have no choice but to go with Carrizo... And quite possibly Orion or someone else local for the mascot spot. I watched the Atletico - Villar match today, we can forget about Leo Franco.
IMO, Pato had fucked us on numerous occasions and he is going to keep fucking us with his retirement plan. He had completely fucked Ustari with this Getafe shit.

Basile kept calling up Coloccini, yet not playing him. I don't quite understand why not give Zabaleta a try though. Coloccini is a little taller and MAYBE tiny bit better in the air, but Zabaleta is a tremendous all around defender, and younger. Their positioning are very similar too, and Zabaleta seemed to be more reliable when playing RB.

There's only spot for 1 more defender. I hope we tryout a fullback this time. There are 3 good players for the CB positions, using the last spot to try out a left back doesn't hurt.

why don't Basile try Lisandro Lopez of FC Porto ? or is he not good enough ? And he's choosing Cambiasso again... and again... i'm gutted.

Lisandro Lopez scored around 10 goals a year. That's not too impressive given he plays in Portugal, eventhough some the goals he scored were memorable.

Also, he's sort of similar to Palacio, can play in the middle but not a specialized target person. Not exactly what we're looking for.

licha lopez may only play in Portugal, but how can a player be confident when he scores like shit and the Coach picks players who don't eben play?

Get over your Riquelme hatred. Basile wants to play with a playmaker and he's the only one who can do the job correctly. Besides Roman will probably start playing again in december, so whatever.

hmm... i think you're right rio. Even Kun Aguero plays better than lisa lopez.

It seems like Argentines are the best in their positions when it comes to club football, messi , tevez, mascherano, and of course roman...can't wait for him to play again.

what do you have against roman progott ? Since you hate him so much, can you suggest, who can replace our no. 10 ? he IS our no. 10 and only messi can replace him now... but as far as playmaking is concerned, he's the best in the world, coz zidane's retired already.

what say you...

Here comes the fiasco again.

Like wmkeri said, it's not about how much one likes Roman, it's whether there's replacement.

I don't hate Roman, but it's time for a change! Forget that playmaker shit. Who the hell needs a playmaker? Argentina should change the system because it didn't work for over 20 years now.
It's not about who can replace roman, We don't need to replace him, we need an other formation.
Argentina is one of the best teams in the world, and than you have players in your team which doesn't even play football.....

He would still be the best playmaker option for us if we play other formations, at least in most cases.

I think what we need is figuring out a way to insert another playmaker who could help Roman shouldering some responsibilities.

The last time we tried to change our system we didn't even make it past the group stage...

the last time we changed our system...we had old people upfront -batistuta- and dumb people to depend on -ortega- and "just returned from an injury" playmaker - veron-

do this again in any system and we will be eliminated from the first two matches.....

Yes when failed back than with all the old players. But now we have new, young players who are so much better apart from Batigol.

Rio said...

spot on.

we didn't have Roman in 02', or it could of been a completely different story.

Batistuta 2002 was still a better garbage man than Crespo today, but we definitely have much better supporting forwards and attacking midfield now. We got pwned by England because our offense could not find a way to break them down, that's why I don't want to see any of them on the NT now.

no body wants old people...except the nutshells who are in love with individuals!

the time of roman and crespo was 02....not 06....and difinetly not 2010..zanetti should be appreciated formally and that's it .....no point of playing him!! it doesn't make a huge impact...
it kills me that so far we have no replacements......

stick to young players...it will not pay in the beginning ...later on..we'll difenetly find one....if ayala didn't retire...am sure that dumb basile wouldn't try demichelis....the same should happen with the rest

Of course ! With the exception of Messi and a bunch of other players ! Just don't put Riquelme out to pasture ! Much too valuable.
